I was a fat kid from a big household which lacked vegetables, but loved sports.  By the time I entered middle school, I had developed a love of lifting weights and cooking, and tried at least five different sports.  That pudgy kid never really turned into much of an athlete (more of an athletic technician if you will), and never learned how to eat.  As such, I’ve had two separate times as an adult where I’ve gained and lost 50+ pounds.  I understand what it takes for the eternally chubby to lose weight, and I’ve been in and out of weight rooms for more than 20 years now, so I know what training and strength are all about.
In 2011, I began my second weight loss journey after spending a few years out of the gym getting fat.  Early that year, after making the decision to change, I stumbled upon the Paleo diet and my world was changed.  Centering your diet on lean meats, vegetables, and healthy fats is great for weight loss and long term health, and can also make maintaining your weight effortless.  Yo-Yo No-Mo!!
After playing around with Crossfit during 2011 and 2012, I decided to pursue real strength gains again in 2013.  That year I competed in my first powerlifting meet in 10 years, and it re-lit a fire in me!  Since then, I’ve been training and competing in powerlifting, improving my numbers, refining my technique, and setting many state records in the process.  I also started the fast-growing powerlifting team at CrossFit Magnus, and have found coaching competitive athletes to be a deeply rewarding experience.
